The Science Year is a joint initiative of the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt, BMFTR) and Wissenschaft im Dialog (WiD), the German organization for science communication since 2000. The aim of the Science Years is to foster public dialogue on relevant topics in science and research. Developments in science and research are to become more transparent and accessible to the general public. At the same time, the Science Years aim to trigger and drive public debate about these developments.
Initially, the focus of the Science Years was on individual disciplines. Examples of past Science Years include the Year of Technology or the Year of the Humanities. Since 2010, the Science Years have addressed challenges of the future across subjects and disciplines. These have included health research, research on the future of the digital society, seas and oceans, artificial intelligence and our universe.
Health is one of the most important prerequisites for a good life. In the Science Year 2026 – Medicine of the Future, you can discover how researchers are already shaping the medicine of tomorrow with their ideas and solutions – a medicine that is preventive, personalized, digital, and participatory.
How can we improve prevention strategies so that we become ill less often and less severely? How can innovative technologies and artificial intelligence support diagnostics and therapy without losing sight of the human being? In the medicine of the future, the individual needs of patients and more effective treatments take center stage. A special focus of the Science Year is on gender-sensitive research, which will enable women to receive tailored medical care in the future.
A wide range of events, projects and initiatives invite you to explore, discuss and shape the medicine of the future – together with representatives from the worlds of science, research, business, the media and politics, and for the health of tomorrow!
